Rendering in Maya with Particles

Selecting Proper Settings

In order to render in Maya using particles there are a few settings that are necessary for particles to be rendered properly. These settings are described below.

  • In Maya, under the pulldown, select "Dynamics".

  • Under the Solvers menu, select "Edit Oversampling or Cache Settings...".

  • Check the "Use of Particle Disk Cache" and enter a "cacheDirectory".

  • On the "Solvers" menu, select the icon to the right of "Create Particle Disk Cache".

  • Verify the Cache Directory is consistent with the directory entered in the previous step and check "Use Render Globals Range". Note: be sure that your render globals specify the correct frame range first!

  • If the cache directory you specified has a different name than your scene, you will see this warning. It is safe to click "yes" provided no other scenes in the same project directory will be affected.

  • Maya will generate the particle cache files, and store them in your cache directory.

  • For every particle object in your scene:
    • Select the particle object, e.g., in the "Outliner".
    • In the attribute editor, check the "Cache Data" within "General Control Attributes"
